Hongdae Salon Marketing: From Google Maps and Instagram to Bookings
For international customers looking for a Hongdae hair salon, Google Maps, Instagram and the booking page answer different questions. Maps helps them compare location and basic information; Instagram shows styles and results. The service, date, time, stylist and payment conditions are best confirmed on a dedicated booking page. Even when an inquiry starts on Instagram, use one official booking link and keep the final details in that booking system so omissions are easier to spot.
On September 17, 2026, BlinkAd searched Hongdae hair salon around Hongik University Station and reviewed the booking screens reached from the results. This comparison follows how someone might check a salon found on Maps and then make a booking.
Check the booking button on each Hongdae Maps listing
We searched Hongdae hair salon while signed out, using the English interface around Hongik University Station. Of the first 10 salons displayed, 7 had a Book online button directly on the Maps card. The destinations differed.

This table does not rank salons or judge service quality. Results vary with location, time, interface language and personal settings, and a booking button does not reveal completed booking numbers. The sample showed several salons where someone could start booking directly from search results.
In a Korean autocomplete check, entering 홍대 미용실 외국인 returned 홍대 외국인 미용실, a phrase referring to Hongdae salons for foreign customers. This was treated only as a clue that a related search expression existed, not as evidence of search volume or the searcher's nationality.
Check beyond whether your own salon is listed:
- Does it appear among the candidates for a search combining the area and business type?
- Can people check current hours, address, photographs and reviews in the Maps card and details?
- Does the booking button open the correct branch's booking page?
- Can someone continue booking without logging in or repeating the search?
Google allows booking links on Business Profiles. For multiple locations, the link should lead to the specific branch, and the booking destination should let someone complete the booking. Using an Instagram profile as the booking-button destination is different from directing people from Instagram to the official booking page.
Give Maps, Instagram and the booking page different jobs
Decide what each channel needs to explain rather than repeating the same information everywhere.
| Channel | What customers need to know | What the salon should prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps | Is it nearby, open and a place they feel confident visiting? | Accurate branch name, address and hours; current photographs, real reviews and the official booking link |
| Has the salon created the style they want, and which stylist's work suits their taste? | Results by service, named stylists, current inquiry options and a booking link | |
| Booking page | Which service, time and stylist to choose, and what it costs and includes | Service name, estimated duration, price or variable conditions, stylist, availability, cancellation and deposit policies, and confirmation instructions |

The observed booking screens also differed. A SimplyBook flow showed branch, service category, provider, time and customer details, and some pages supplied service descriptions in several languages. Google's booking screen sometimes offered several providers for one salon. Fresha separated individual and group bookings before service selection.
The tool's name matters less than whether someone can find the necessary information through the whole process. Even with plenty of result photos on Instagram, missing price ranges or duration can send someone back to DMs. A large booking menu with unexplained differences makes the choice harder too.
Instagram can help people assess a style and start a conversation with photographs. If bookings stay only in DMs, dates, services, stylists and deposits can become scattered across messages. Keep the final details on a booking page or system managed by the salon.
If your Google Business Profile supports Instagram links, connect the correct account in its social profiles as well. Google says this feature is available only in selected regions and profiles, and does not supply separate social-link click metrics. Check availability in the profile editor.
Collect inquiry details once so the booking can move forward
Before a long Instagram discussion, collect the minimum booking information in a consistent order:
- The desired service, or an indication that the person has not decided
- The preferred date and available times
- Photographs showing current hair condition and the desired result
- A preferred stylist or
No preference - The language in which they want a reply
Do not confirm final service suitability or an exact price from photographs alone. For items affected by bleaching history, hair length and condition or additional services, state conditions such as Starting at or Confirmed after consultation. Give the standard duration together with factors that may change it.
A staff reply should include the next step. Instead of ending at “this style needs a consultation,” explain which photographs and details are needed and send the branch's booking link. Explain which notification confirms the appointment after service and time selection. An inquiry received, a booking requested and a booking confirmed are different statuses.
Stylist profiles should use actual names, current services and work photographs approved for publication. Before describing a stylist as available in another language, confirm the language, level and available hours. Using a translation tool is different from offering regular consultations in that language.
Our guide to managing LINE, WhatsApp and Instagram inquiries in one place (Korean) focuses on recording incoming inquiries in the official booking process rather than simply increasing the channel count.
Use a month to test the whole booking process
Maps views alone are not enough to assess international marketing for a Hongdae salon. Recording each step from search to confirmation helps identify where the process stops.
Week 1: check the Google Business Profile. Confirm the name matches the actual sign, along with the address, pin, hours, current branch photographs and services. The booking link should let someone book that branch, rather than opening a general page for several locations.
Week 2: check the booking page on mobile. Follow the English process through service selection, price conditions, duration, stylist, date, customer details, cancellation and deposit guidance, and confirmation. If several providers are connected, decide which link staff will recommend first.
Week 3: agree the order of Instagram replies. Prepare brief answers to common questions and a list of needed photographs and details. End replies with the same official booking link. Confirm that appointments agreed in DMs also appear in the final booking record.
Week 4: compare the metrics across stages. Business Profile supplies applicable metrics such as searches, views and website clicks. Completed bookings through a provider may appear in Google performance under the relevant conditions, but booking performance is not supplied for custom links. Record the following separately:
| Stage | What to measure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | Maps search terms and profile views | A view is not an inquiry or booking |
| Interest | Instagram profile visits and DMs | Google does not provide social-link click metrics |
| Start | Booking-button clicks and booking starts | A start is not a completion |
| Confirmation | Confirmed bookings in the booking system | Separate cancellations and no-shows |
| Visit | Actual visits and payment | Record the search channel's contribution separately |

UTMs can distinguish channel and language. Keep identifying details such as names, phone numbers and photograph content out of URLs and analytics events. Comparing Instagram inquiries, booking starts and confirmations over a month helps show which part needs attention before increasing ad spend.

Frequently asked questions
Can we manage bookings only through Instagram DMs?
It may work when volume is low and one person manages everything. However, dates, services, stylists, deposits and confirmation can be scattered through conversations. Use DMs for discussion and reference photographs, and keep final bookings in one system to help reduce omissions and duplication.
How should we show prices when they vary by customer?
List the base or starting price with the conditions that change it, such as hair length, bleaching history and extra services. If photos are not enough to confirm the price, clearly state Confirmed after consultation. If payment is taken during booking, make clear whether it is a deposit or the full price.
Can we measure international customers' bookings separately?
Use language-specific booking links and UTMs, and a preferred-language field in the booking form, rather than guessing nationality. Record Maps views, Instagram inquiries, booking starts, confirmations and actual visits separately to see which step has improved.
