Myeongdong Pharmacy Marketing: From Tourist Searches to Store Visits
For a tourist looking for a pharmacy in Myeongdong, accurate, easy-to-find information matters more than the number of foreign-language phrases on a page. After discovering the pharmacy through Google Search or Maps, they need to understand its location, opening hours, product range and entrance before requesting directions.
BlinkAd looks at how international customers search for, compare and visit businesses in Korea. What needs attention before interest in Myeongdong pharmacies can become an opportunity for an actual visit? We will work through search terms, Maps visibility and business information.
What terms do people use to find a pharmacy in Myeongdong?
The terms familiar to a pharmacy owner may differ from what visitors type. In BlinkAd's Google autocomplete check on September 8, 2026, 명동 외국인 (“Myeongdong foreigners”) produced the related phrase 명동 외국인 약국 (“Myeongdong pharmacy for foreigners”). For 약국 외국인 (“pharmacy foreigners”), suggestions included 외국인 관광객 약국 (“pharmacy for international tourists”), 외국인 약국 화장품 (“foreigners pharmacy cosmetics”) and 명동 외국인 약국 (“Myeongdong pharmacy for foreigners”).
Autocomplete is not a search-volume statistic. It offers clues to expressions people use. Alongside actual demand estimates, those clues can help clarify what information a profile needs.
On the same date, Google Ads data for Seoul, using the Traditional Chinese language setting and the period August 2025–July 2026, returned approximately 590 average monthly searches for 明洞 藥局 (“Myeongdong pharmacy”) and approximately 720 for 韓國 藥局 必買 (“Korean pharmacy must-buys”). These are approximate monthly averages, not counts of international customers, visitors or purchases. The language setting does not establish nationality. Similar queries may be grouped, so adding the two figures does not produce a market-size estimate.
Someone finding a nearby pharmacy in Myeongdong and someone researching what to buy at a Korean pharmacy have different questions. Give each search purpose the information it needs rather than trying to answer everything in one introduction.
| Search phrase | What the searcher wants to know | What to show in the profile and website |
|---|---|---|
명동 외국인 약국 (Myeongdong pharmacy for foreigners) | Will it be straightforward for an international visitor to use? | Exact location, opening hours, contact method and actual language support |
明洞 藥局 (Myeongdong pharmacy) | How do I get there from here? | Map pin, entrance photographs, floor and directions |
韓國 藥局 必買 (Korean pharmacy must-buys) | What can I buy at a Korean pharmacy? | Actual product categories, matters requiring consultation and how to check stock |
명동 약국 화장품 (Myeongdong pharmacy cosmetics) | Can I buy cosmetics at the pharmacy? | Actual categories stocked, display photographs and product descriptions without exaggerated claims |
Being found does not mean a visit has happened
Search volume is not the number of visitors to your pharmacy. A tourist's route may look like this:
Enter a query → check Maps results → compare profiles → request directions → find the entrance → visit
Missing information makes it harder to decide whether to go. Old opening hours leave people unsure whether they can visit now. A pin pointing behind the building, with no exterior photograph, can make the entrance difficult to find. An unclear product range gives them little basis for comparing pharmacies.
Google Business Profile can show search terms, profile views, direction requests, calls and website clicks. A direction request is not a completed visit, and a website click is not a purchase. Compare profile data with inquiries and payment records to understand what happens closer to a visit and a sale.
That is why it helps to find where people stop after searching before focusing on more views.
Maps results can differ from one part of Myeongdong to another
One search from the middle of the pharmacy cannot show the full picture. Google explains that local results mainly combine relevance to the query, distance from the searcher and prominence. Results may change when the person searching moves to another location.
On September 8, 2026, BlinkAd measured 明洞 藥局 across a 5×5 grid within a 0.5 km radius of central Myeongdong. Across the 25 locations, the Maps results contained 30 unique competing profiles. This is a visibility baseline for a particular time and area. It is not visitor volume, market share or an exact reproduction of what someone of a particular nationality sees on their phone.

Being easy to find by business name is different from appearing among the options for an area-and-category search. Judging Maps visibility by name searches alone can miss how new customers look for a pharmacy.
Set three separate baselines:
- Is profile information accurate when someone searches for the business name?
- Where does the profile appear for area-and-category queries such as
명동 약국(“Myeongdong pharmacy”),Myeongdong pharmacyand明洞 藥局? - Is there information explaining the pharmacy for searches involving a product category or purpose?
Changing the language does not necessarily create an equivalent query. Wording can change intent and Maps results, so keep records by language.
Answer five questions before the visit
International customers may compare several profiles before visiting. If they cannot find answers to these five questions, they may choose a pharmacy that is easier to understand.
1. Is this actually a pharmacy?
The primary Business Profile category should match the actual business. Adding unrelated categories is not helpful. Google recommends using as few categories as possible and choosing specific ones that describe the core business.
2. Can I visit now?
Give weekday, weekend and special holiday hours. Actual times are more useful than “open late.” If hours change often, update regular and special hours before publishing another post.
3. Can I find the entrance?
One photograph of the whole building may be insufficient when several businesses share it or there are multiple entrances. Show the exterior and sign as a pedestrian sees them, the entrance, floor and elevator location. These photographs help people find the entrance as well as showing them the business.
4. What can I ask about?
Do not list products you do not stock simply to match a search term. Explain actual product categories and the scope of consultation. For stock that changes frequently, add a way to check, such as contacting the pharmacy before visiting. Avoid presenting prices or availability as fixed if they cannot be kept current.
5. How can I ask a question?
If foreign-language support is available, describe the languages and hours accurately. “English and Chinese available” can create a mismatch if support is not consistently available. Even when using translation tools, staff should agree on how to check information needed for a consultation, such as symptoms, current medication and allergies.
Avoid adding search terms to the business name
To attract more views, a business might append terms such as 외국인 약국 (“pharmacy for foreigners”), Myeongdong pharmacy or 명동 최저가 (“lowest prices in Myeongdong”) to its actual name. Google requires the profile name to reflect the business's real-world name, used consistently on signage, its website and printed materials. It also states that unnecessary marketing language or service and product information in the name can lead to suspension.
Put the address and hours in the basic information, the actual product range in descriptions and linked pages, and entrance guidance in photographs. Check that a foreign-language name also matches the name genuinely used by the business.
Google says businesses cannot request or pay for better local rankings. When choosing an agency, ask which queries it will measure, from which locations and what it will improve, rather than relying on a promise of top placement within days.
What to measure during the first month
Covering every language and product at once creates a large maintenance task. In the first month, concentrate on correcting current information and recording what happens between search and contact.
| Stage | What to check | What it can tell you | What it cannot tell you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search | Search terms associated with profile visibility | Which expressions helped people find it | Nationality or whether a purchase followed |
| Comparison | Profile views and the condition of photographs and information | Whether there was an opportunity to be considered | The specific reason for comparing it with another business |
| Action | Directions, calls and website clicks | An indication of intent to visit or ask a question | Whether a visit or payment was completed |
| At the pharmacy | Foreign-language inquiries and questions about how customers found it | Responses from customers who arrived | Google Search's contribution alone |
| Purchase | POS product and payment records | Actual sales | Permission to collect personal information without customer consent |
You can work through the month in this order:
- In week one, align the name, category, address, map pin and hours with the actual pharmacy.
- In week two, organize exterior, entrance, interior and product-category photographs. Review old photographs and any that could be mistaken for another business.
- In week three, record frequently asked product questions and use them to improve website answers.
- In week four, compare search terms, directions, calls and website clicks with pharmacy inquiries and payments.
Combining language figures indiscriminately or reporting directions as visits makes the next month's comparison harder. Preserve what each measurement actually represents.
Myeongdong pharmacy international-marketing checklist
- Is ownership of Google Business Profile verified?
- Do the name, address and phone number match the actual signage and business?
- Are weekday, weekend and holiday hours current?
- Can someone find the pharmacy using the pin and entrance photographs?
- Are actual product categories and contact methods visible?
- Are supported languages and response hours described accurately?
- Has Maps visibility been measured for area-and-category searches as well as the business name?
- Are searches, directions, inquiries, visits and purchases recorded separately?
If you cannot readily answer more than half of these eight questions, review the profile and measurement process before advertising. More views will not fill gaps in the information people need before a visit.
Frequently asked questions
Will adding an English or Chinese business name improve visibility?
A foreign-language name alone does not establish better visibility. First check whether it is genuinely and consistently used on signage and in operations. Expanding the name to insert keywords can breach Google's guidelines. Provide language-specific information accurately in descriptions, photographs and webpages.
Do more direction requests mean more visitors?
No. A direction request suggests an intention to visit, but does not confirm arrival or purchase. Compare it with foreign-language inquiries, customers' stated discovery routes and payment records.
How many languages should the website support?
Start with languages that repeatedly appear in actual queries, existing reviews and inquiries. Translating many pages without maintaining hours, stock information and support details can create inconsistent information.
Start with a baseline before turning search interest into visits
The original observations show interest in finding pharmacies in Myeongdong, but that demand does not automatically produce visits to any one pharmacy. Check visibility in area-and-category searches, whether the profile answers pre-visit questions, and whether directions are followed by actual inquiries and purchases.
BlinkAd examines area-and-category queries, Google Maps visibility by location, profile information and actions after search. Request an international-marketing assessment to review current visibility and priorities. The assessment establishes the current position and a basis for the next measurement; it does not guarantee rankings or revenue.
